From the article: Top 10 Most Visited Monopoly Properties
Many Monopoly players have favorite properties they always try to acquire. Some love to get the four railroads, while others try to obtain the orange properties (St. James Place, Tennessee Avenue, and New York Avenue in the standard U.S. edition). And the blue properties (Park Place and Boardwalk) are always in high demand. What Monopoly properties do you think are most important to own? Share Your Thoughts
Hate to Disagree
- Hmm... Railroads are strong early, but they usually don't win you the game. Trying to get one of everything is a good way to create a really ong game. There is nothing special about Free Parking that makes people land in that area more than another. Green and Dark Blue are the most expensive properties in the game, but they are also the most expensive to put houses/hotels on. A few facts: The second set of properties on each side of the board are better value. They cost slightly more to acquire, but houses/hotels cost the same as their sister properties and yield far more in returns. This difference grows as you move into better properties ($600 difference between Pennsylvania and Boardwalk with hotels). Also, you increase your chances of being landed on based on board position. Properties near Go, Jail, Boardwalk, and to a lesser degree, Railroads, all gain the benefit of not only rolls but also Chance cards and the Go to Jail square. Players are often in these areas more often.

Get A Side of the Board
- If you are able to get a side, even the cheap "bad" ones, then you are sure to get money.

4 Best in Order of Best to Worst
- 1. Greens: They allow you to have 3 properties while still having them owe you a lot! 2. Oranges: Everyone goes to jail! When they get out of jail, where do you think they are going? ON THE ORANGE! 3. Boardwalk and Park Place: They are the highest and best but since there are only two, people don't land on them as much as green. 4. Reds: The most landed-on property in Monopoly is Illinois Avenue.

Best Properties in Monopoly
- I say the utilities are pretty good, but the green and dark blue are the ones I always want -- and I usually get both.

Around Free Parking
- When I play Monopoly, money is always under Free Parking (paid taxes.) The two colors around there are the best, but the best individual streets are New York and Tennessee.

One of Each
- I try to get at least one of each property group. Doesn't matter if you get a monopoly if no one else has one. And it is easier than you may think: Just wait until someone is running low on cash and offer them a little more than what they paid. It works best if you don't own any property around it, no one thinks about your strategy until it's too late. And you can never trade porperty cards, ever. It will come back to haunt you. Once you own it, it stays with you. Then, as players go out, the odds are they will bankrupt on your property and you will get their cards (if you play by those house rules, if not, it doesn't matter because no one can get a monopoly). So, to sum it up, get one of each group. Haven't lost a game yet.

The must-have properties
- you can make the argument that every property is important. However, when i play, i make it my mission to obtain Mediterranean Ave. You will be surprised how many people land it after being forced to move one extra space passed Go. The rent is only $2, but it's awesome because it really annoys your opponents.

Definitely the Railroads
- I love being able to collect all four railroads! Owning a property in the middle of each side of the board is a very good thing.
