HeroCard: Rise of the Shogun

Designed by Alexi Othenin-Girard; published by TableStar Games; 2 players; ages 12 and up; $25 (approximate)

HeroCard is a hybrid card game and board game in which each player is a hero battling other heroes. There are four games available now which use the same basic HeroCard system: Rise of the Shogun, Champion of New Olympia, Galaxy and Cyberspace. Each game was designed by a different author, giving them a unique feel while maintaining core elements. Rise of the Shogun comes with two heroes, a samurai and a ninja; two small expansion packs are available: Miko and a prince. Each game follows that pattern (two heroes included with the game, two others available separately). Each hero has three attributes and a deck of cards used to attack and block attacks. Card management is vital to achieve victory. In addition to using the board, players can fight one-on-one duels with just the cards.
