Rob Daviau and Craig Van Ness design games for Hasbro, and they do a great job of putting together games that can be enjoyed by both serious and casual gamers. These are my picks for their best five games.
1. Star Wars Epic Duels
If you've ever wondered who would win between Darth Maul and Han Solo, or a straight-up battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Emperor Palpatine, Epic Duels is the game you've been waiting for. Each of the 12 main characters comes with a customized deck of cards. Including minor characters, there are 31 plastic painted miniatures. And the game features four arenas in which to fight. Although this game is out of print, it's worth tracking down.2. Risk 2210 AD
This is Risk -- but with a refreshing modern update. The five commanders have special abilities, including the use of some powerful cards. Commanders also allow units to move into underwater and moon territories. A 5-turn limit means games finish in about 2 hours.3. Roller Coaster Tycoon
Based on the video game of the same name, this game lets players build a theme park. You purchase rides and try to get the visitors to use them. But your competitors are trying to do the same thing. A game that's simple enough for children and clever enough to be enjoyed by adults.4. Clash of the Lightsabers
This is a one-on-one lightsaber fight to the death between Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul. Players must manage their cards well through a series of three battles. Tough decisions are common as you must decide when to push forward and when to retreat.5. Powerpuff Girls Games
There are actually three Powerpuff Girls games, all of which are well designed. Saving the World Before Bedtime and Mojo Jojo Attacks Townsville are the best two, both board games with unique features. The board in Saving the World Before Bedtime is absolutely huge, and Jojo Attacks Townsville features Mojo Jojo's tower, from which he tries to defeat the Powerpuff Girls. What Other Gamers Say
