With appearances in thousands of comic books and three successful films grossing about $1 billion, the X-Men are a legitimate pop culture phenomenon. At least 11 games featuring the X-Men have been published through the years. Here's a brief look at each of them (in reverse chronological order).

X-Men DVD Game
Published by Pressman in 2006.
For 2 or more players.
Players choose to be Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops or Phoenix as they attempt to free their fellow X-Men from Magneto and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The DVD keeps tack of each player's turn and features "a wide variety of unique endings and scenarios [that] make each comic book adventure different every time you play it," according to Pressman's press materials.

Marvel Battle Dice
Published by Playmates in 2006.
For 2 players.
The first series of figures in this collectible game included 11 from the X-Men and 11 more in the "X-Villains" set. Battle Dice consists of "pop dice" that open to reveal themed dynamically posed action figures making up six different armies. Each figure has six different attributes plus symbols and numbers signifying the strength of their power. Players battle by loading their dice with action figures, then rolling simultaneously with their opponents. The player with the lowest number selects the attribute to be used and the battle begins.

Marvel Trading Card Game (Vs. System)
Published by Upper Deck Entertainment in 2004.
For 2 players.
The Vs. game system quickly established itself as the premier superhero TCG, and since its original release with characters from Marvel Comics, including the X-Men, has been expanded to include characters from DC Comics. In February 2006, an X-Men-only expansion was published.

Uno X-Men Edition
Published by Sabba Toys in 2003.
For 2 to 10 players.
Packaged in a tin box, this game is Uno with the regular cards replaced by cards featuring the X-Men. One new card is introduced: Mutate, which allows a player to discard all but one of their cards and draw new cards in their place or force an opponent to do the same.

Marvel HeroClix
Published by WizKids in 2002.
For 2 players.
The entire Marvel comic book universe is featured in this game, which also has versions for DC Comics and independent comics. The game involves plastic figures on a combat base that includes stats for speed, attack, defense, damage and range. Each player chooses an army of comic book characters and then they battle each other. HeroClix has been a huge hit for publisher WizKids.

X-Men Trading Card Game
Published by Wizards of the Coast in 2000.
For 2 players.
It's difficult to find any positive reviews of this TCG, designed by Mike Fitzgerald, who is otherwise regarded as an excellent designer. The game was published to be released as the first X-Men movie was being released, so it's possible that a quick game design was required and didn't allow for enough game development time.

Monopoly X-Men Collector's Edition
Published by USAopoly in 2000.
For 2 to 6 players.
Just as you would expect, this is Monopoly with an X-Men theme. In place of Park Place and Boardwalk players will find Phoenix and Wolverine.

X-Men Under Seige
Published by Pressman in 1994.
For 2 to 4 players.
With a uniquely sized game board (11 inches wide x 38 inches long) and 18 plastic X-Men figures, this game designed by Richard Borg finds Professor Xavier's mansion invaded by evil mutants. Each player leads a team of X-Men and attempts to score the most points while reclaiming control of the mansion. Each character has a custom stat card, and the figures are well-sculpted (although they are not painted). Among the X-Men in the game are Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, Cyclops, Beast, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler and Iceman.

X-Men Crisis in the Danger Room
Published by Pressman in 1994.
For 2 to 4 players.
This appears to be the simplest (i.e. least strategic) of Pressman's series of four X-Men games. It features a 3D board and four plastic X-Men figures. Players use a spinner to move and then fight villains.

The Uncanny X-Men Alert! Adventure Game
Published by Pressman in 1992.
For 2 to 4 players.
Many of the 18 plastic figures in this game are the same as in 1994's Under Seige game, but not all. Each character has a custom stat card, and the board is divided into three battle zones. Players work to build up their team of mutants and then earn points by defeating villains. X-Men Alert was designed by Richard Borg.

The Uncanny X-Men Deck the Mutants Card Game
Published by Pressman in 1992.
For 2 to 4 players.
Dice are rolled to determine what actions a player must take on each turn. Players then try to use their cards to capture evil mutants to score points. Designed by Richard Borg.
