Games based on the most famous ape in the world

King Kong has captured movie-goers' imaginations three times: the original film in 1933, the first remake in 1976 and director Peter Jackson's 2005 version.

In my research, I've only turned up three games based on the giant ape -- two of which were published in 2005. The third is from 1976.

King Kong Skull Island Game

For 2 to 6 players, designer uncredited, published by Pressman (2005).

This game comes with some cool props -- 3D landmarks like the Empire State Building, a boat and a stage. Unfortunately, the gameplay doesn't add anything to the components. Just about everything is randomly determined as players lure Kong off of Skull Island and into New York City, then try to be the one to rescue Ann Darrow.

Kong Checkers

For 2 players, published by Pressman (2005).

This is simply Checkers with pieces made to look like they have Kong's footprints on them. Apart from that design on the checkers themselves and the board, there's nothing to connect it to the film.

King Kong

For 2 to 4 players, designer uncredited, published by Ideal (1976).

The cover of this game features King Kong straddling the twin towers of the World Trade Center and proclaims itself to be, "The game that pits you against the most terrifying monster of all time!" In the game itself, players compete to be the one to stop Kong from reaching the top of the World Trade Center.

Kong is about six inches tall, which means the entire board when put together (it comes in two pieces) is about two feet long. To knock Kong off the buildings, you have to successfully attack him five times. But he can also knock you down -- which means you would have to start over.
