Pantheon Game Box

The box for the new game Pantheon, on display at the 2006 American International Toy Fair.

Erik Arneson
Pantheon is a strategy game in which players use tiles (nice 3-D plastic blocks) to construct buildings, trying to have the tallest, widest, best-scoring set of towers when the game ends.

But there are a few rules. For example, each building can only include tiles of one color, and the base can only be four tiles wide. Also, each tile is numbered 0 through 5; only higher numbers can be placed on top of lower numbers. So it's not a good plan to put a 5 tile on the bottom level of a building. When buildings are completed, each tile included is worth one point.

I played a quick two-player game of Pantheon and was impressed, although my sense is that it will be even better with three or four players.

Designed by Reiner Knizia, for 2 to 4 players, ages 12 and up, about 30 minutes per game. Scheduled for release later in 2006.
