MacSoft, a leading Macintosh entertainment software publisher, announced recently plans to publish several titles for the Mac in 2000, including the Hasbro titles Monopoly and Scrabble. Both games currently are available for the PC from Hasbro Interactive.
"We're looking forward to bringing these diverse games to the Mac, ones that will entertain both young and old alike in the family," Cindy Swanson, marketing manager for MacSoft, said in a press release. "The agreement with Hasbro Interactive provides MacSoft with a great opportunity to publish some very high-profile, mainstream titles for the Mac gaming community and also to introduce iMac owners to entertainment software through games they're already familiar with yet in a different medium."
Monopoly, one of the most popular board games in history and according to Hasbro the No. 1 selling family CD-ROM game, brings these features to the Macintosh platform:
- More than 800 colorful and cool 3D animations;
- 18 original musical scores and sound effects;
- Up to six human or computer opponents;
- Customizable game play that allows cheating; and
- Play over the Internet.
The Mac version of Scrabble will include:
- Mini Scrabble games, Anagrams, Rackagrams and Tournaments to help users hone their skills;
- Speed Scrabble;
- A customizable game board;
- Maven, billed as "the most formidable computer opponent ever developed for Scrabble";
- The ability to challenge other players with full-featured network and Internet play;
- Pop-up definitions and hint guides;
- Multiple skill levels; and
- Merriam Webster's Official Scrabble Player's Dictionary, 3rd Edition, as well as a customizable dictionary.
