The results of that vote will be announced in August 2008, with the game itself scheduled to be available soon thereafter.
Numerous Here & Now editions have already been published featuring individual countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
According to a press release about the national Here & Now editions, "Parker Brothers invited fans of the game to help update the board in their respective countries to reflect what the game board would look like if it were created today instead of in 1935. The votes resulted in the Here & Now versions of the game in each country – with often surprising results! In France, Paris never made it onto game board. In the United States, powerhouse-city Dallas landed in the low-rent district. In Australia, fans logged more than 17 million votes. And in the U.K., more votes were cast during the UK online vote than were cast in local elections taking place at the same time."
In April 2008, Parker Brothers announced that the Monopoly Here & Now World Edition will feature Wind Energy and Solar Energy as the utilities, replacing Electric Company and Water Works. (Previous Here & Now editions have featured Cell Phone Service and Internet Service in place of Water Works and Electric Company.)
"When creating this first-ever worldwide Monopoly game board, we reviewed all elements of the game to ensure that it reflects today's global perspective. This included the utility property spaces," Phil Jackson, group executive of Hasbro Games, said in a press release. "In a nod to the efforts of countries worldwide to increase the effectiveness and availability of renewable energy sources, we decided to feature Solar Energy and Wind Energy on the game board."
