In Unspeakable Words, players form words with the cards in their hand, trying to be the first to reach 100 points. But because this is "The Call of Cthulhu Word Game," based on the writing of H.P. Lovecraft, each letter is valued based on how many angles it contains. For example, a C is worth 0 points while an H is worth 4 points.

After creating a word, the player rolls a 20-sided die. If the roll does not equal or exceed the value of the word, that player loses a pawn and moves one step closer to insanity. An insane player cannot win.

Published by Playroom Entertainment and designed by James Ernest and Mike Selinker, Unspeakable Words is for 2 to 6 players, ages 10 and up. It takes about 30 minutes to play. The suggested retail price is $20.00.

I've played Unspeakable Words several times and always had a good time. It's a perfect fit for casual word game fans, and you don't need to be a Lovecraft enthusiast at all to enjoy it.
