Gameplay in Brief:
A simple boardgame version of Dungeons and Dragons, Dungeon challenges players to find a certain amount of treasure in the dungeon and then escape. Naturally enough, the treasure is protected by monsters. Combat is simulated via dice rolls.
The Basics:
For 2 to 8 players, ages 8 and up. About 30 minutes per game.
Designer:
Dungeon was designed by Michael Gray, Gary Gygax, Larry Kessling, David R. Megarry, S. Schwab, and Steve Winter.
Publisher:
Dungeon was published by TSR in 1975.
Why Dungeon is Part of the Games Timeline:
The board game Dungeon helped introduce the world of Dungeons and Dragons to even more players. Here are the other games I believe are the most culturally and historically significant games published since 1800.
