APBA Baseball

By Erik Arneson, About.com

The Basics:

Designed by Dick Seitz, APBA Baseball was first published in 1951 by the American Professional Baseball Association (APBA).

Why APBA Baseball is Part of the Games Timeline:

APBA Baseball was one of the earliest successful sports game franchises, and it continues to be published today.

Here are the other games I believe are the most culturally and historically significant games published since 1800.

More About APBA Baseball:

Each major league baseball player has his own card in APBA, which relies on a number of statistics to make gameplay feel more realistic. The game includes charts for various game situations (e.g. bases empty, runners on first and third, etc.). APBA also publishes a football game.
