Gameplay in Brief:

Collecting sets of antiques is the goal in this game. Each turn includes two rounds. In the first, all players simultaneously decide whether they're going to the castle or the auction house; in the second, they decide what action they'll take in the building they chose. It's best to pick a building and action that no other player chooses.

Designer:

Hoity Toity was designed by Klaus Teuber.

Publisher:

Hoity Toity was published by Uberplay. Previous editions were published by FX Schmid and Avalon Hill. It was first released in 1990.

Also Published As:

Hoity Toity has also been published as Adel Verpflichtet, By Hook or by Crook, and Fair Means or Foul.

Also by Klaus Teuber:

Teuber also designed dozens of other published games, including Domaine (2003), Löwenherz (1997), Entdecker (1996), The Settlers of Catan (1995) and many other Catan games, Wacky Wacky West (originally published in 1991 as Drunter und Drüber), and Barbarossa (1988).

Awards:

Adel Verpflichtet won the 1990 Spiel des Jahres. It is also on my list of the best bluffing games and the best games by Klaus Teuber.

Why Adel Verpflichtet is Part of the Games Timeline:

Adel Verpflichtet was the first true designer game to be published in the United States. Avalon Hill published it as By Hook or by Crook. Here are the other games I believe are the most culturally and historically significant games published since 1800.
