Frames by Marcos Donnantuoni

An entry in the 2003 Simultaneous Movement Game Design Competition

By Erik Arneson, About.com

For 2 players

Components

Frames is played by two players on a Go board with its pieces, and a few neutral pieces. It can also be played with pencil and paper, because once placed, the pieces can not be moved.

Rules

The moves are simultaneous. In each turn, both players place one of their pieces in an intersection of the board.

If the intersection chosen by both players is the same, a neutral piece is placed instead. Otherwise, both pieces just placed define a rectangle of intersections on the board.

The player who has more pieces inside that rectangle (the pieces in the borders of the rectangle are not counted) earns a point.

The first player to earn a total of ten points is the winner.
