SimplyFun - Hosting Parties and Choosing Games

Page two of an interview with SimplyFun executive Gail DeGiulio

By Erik Arneson, About.com

How many parties have they hosted? Are you seeing the kind of reaction you hoped for?

We have hosted more than 100 parties and the reaction is fantastic. The greatest challenge our consultants have is keeping up with the demand for parties. The host of the party is thrilled that their guests have such a great, entertaining time, our hosts earn free products through our Host Award Program, and best of all their guests have a fun selection of games to purchase for themselves that they now know how to play.

The guests can recreate a fun evening of games for their family, friends, a couples dinner party or ladies night, as well as stock up on gifts for friends and family including home warmings, birthdays, special occasions and holidays. Our consultants spend their valuable time playing games for a living. How fun is that! Everyone wins.

Have you found any consultants signing up just so they can purchase the exclusive games for themselves? (I must admit that I considered this myself.)

No worries, Erik. One of our SimplyFun consultants will come to your home where you can host a SimplyFun party and as the host you can earn all games you want, for free! We really had not considered, or experienced, that people would sign up just so they can "purchase " our games for themselves. To purchase any SimplyFun game, all someone has to do is contact one of our consultants.

A consumer can purchase our games online from a consultant's own personal SimplyFun website, and/or at a SimplyFun party. Someone who joins us as SimplyFun consultant is joining because they truly believe in our mission, and they want to realize a financially rewarding and personally satisfying balance of family, friends, work and, most importantly -- time to play.

To become a SimplyFun consultant, it's easy. Just go to www.simplyfun.com and click on "Become a Consultant." Or give us a call at 1-877-557-7767.

Will SimplyFun products ever be available through traditional retailers, either online or bricks and mortar?

We have no plans to market our products through the retail channel. All of our SimplyFun branded products are exclusively available for purchase only through a SimplyFun consultant as an independent business owner through in-home parties and on her/his own personal website.

If a reader simply wants to buy one or two SimplyFun games, what's the best way for them to do that?

It's easy. Just go to http://simplyfun.com/parties/request/ and a SimplyFun consultant will give you a call. And best of all, when you host a SimplyFun party, you can earn the games you want. The more games and SimplyFun products your party guests purchase, the more host credit you earn towards free SimplyFun products.

The SimplyFun lineup includes games from some recognized designers, such as Alan R. Moon and Klaus Teuber. How are you choosing the games to be published by SimplyFun?

In choosing products for our initial line, it was challenging. There are so many wonderful games that recognized, world-class designers have brought to us for consideration. Our head of product development, Jeremy Young, solicits from the game designer community the kinds of games and products we are looking for.

Our first criteria in evaluating any game is it must be simple to learn and fun to play. This means easily understood in less than five minutes, and can be played one or several times in thirty minutes. We test each game with the consumer audience who the game is for, kids and/or adults.

It seems like about half of the announced SimplyFun games are designed for children. Do you expect that to be the approximate ratio going forward?

That's a good question. Our launch product line was designed to appeal to the broadest audience, covering all ages and kinds of parties, including family, couples, friends and women only parties.

Bringing Down the House is a fun dice rolling game where you are literally building a house. It is great to play with a large group (we played it with 40 people at my own home). And realtors love it as a home warming gift.

Tunebaya is our singing game, and given American Idol's success, the game has broad appeal.

Eye to Eye anyone can play. Even a three year old can play with our Eye to Eye expansion. A child can "say" their answers first or partner with a parent.

Linkity and Walk the Dogs can also be played by ages 5 to 105.

Our product strategy is to deliver what consumers want, which includes a variety of card, board, and party games, unique puzzles and other entertaining products for all ages, 3 to 103.

Many thanks to Gail DeGiulio for taking the time to answer these questions.
