Geography - Car Game Rules

The complete rules for the verbal game Geography

By , About.com Guide

Geography is a good game to help pass the time on long car trips. It is very flexible and does not even need to include geography. Rather than geographic features, players can decide to use nearly any other category of words, such as television shows, book titles or board games. Just be sure everyone understands the category to avoid any disputes in mid-game.

Players

2 or more players.

Equipment

No equipment is necessary. Geography is entirely a verbal game.

Goal

To be the last remaining player.

Gameplay

The youngest player goes first, saying a word related to the chosen category. The next player must then say a word in the chosen category which begins with the last letter of the previously stated word. If he cannot do so, he is eliminated from the game and play passes to the next player.

NOTE: In this game, a "word" can also be a group of words. If the category is geography, for example, such "words" as "Atlantic Ocean" and "Czech Republic" are perfectly acceptable.

The same word can only be used once per game.

EXAMPLE: Five players have chosen the category of board games. Ana begins with, "Settlers of Catan." Billy says, "Nine Men's Morris." Charles says, "Sorry!" Davia says, "Yahtzee." Eden cannot think of any games that begin with an "E," so she is eliminated. It is now Ana's turn, and she must name a game that begins with an "E." If she cannot, she is eliminated and it is Billy's turn.

Winning

The last player to say a legal word is the winner.
