A new and improved version of the card game Before I Kill You, Mister Bond... is due out in January 2001 and will sell for about $6.
Why did you decide to revamp Before I Kill You, Mister Bond...?
I personally wasn't very satisfied with the game, and I thought the new format (putting it into a box) would be a good opportunity to change it. Basically, the original game is far too light for most of the people who play Cheapass Games. While the new rules aren't a drastic change, they do make it more interesting.
How do the new rules affect the game, in practical terms? It seems like more strategy would be introduced.
The new rules in the "Better" edition of Before I Kill You, Mister Bond... are that there are two "Bomb" cards in the deck which are essentially spies of infinite value; players now build lairs face down. Lairs are revealed only when they are visited by a Spy, and subsequent Lair cards are still added face down.
What this means is that it's no longer a sure thing to destroy a player's lair. What used to be clearly a 1-point Lair card face up now becomes a mystery card worth 1-4, and it's more dangerous to go attack it. There's more bluffing in the game, as there should be. Another obvious result is that it's now much easier to build a lair of 8 points or higher, which explains why we introduced the Bombs. Bombs play like Spies, but will destroy anything.
