Stratego Legends

Although related to the classic Stratego, this game sounds significantly more complex than its ancestor. Players buy a standalone game in a box that comes with 60 playing pieces and four mini game boards. Foster called Stratego Legends a "customizable, collectible board game system."

"Each character (piece) has its own special powers," he said. "How they do in battle against another piece depends on a combination of their relative powers and what kind of terrain they’re on. For example, some work better in swamp trerrain."

Avalon Hill will release booster packs with 15 pieces each, allowing players the chance to create highly customized armies. Foster said anyone who buys two copies of the original 60-piece sets may very well get different playing pieces -- so the collecting and trading aspect becomes important from the very beginning; there will be no standard starter set.

Like Stratego, Stratego Legends is designed as a two-player game. However, it will be possible to structure 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 matches using multiple game boards.
