Hasbro to Release Five New Avalon Hill Games
Dateline: 11/05/99When game giant Hasbro purchased Avalon Hill, many boardgamers wondered what effect it would have on what had been one of the most prolific and popular American game companies, home to classics like Diplomacy and Axis and Allies.
We will soon find out.
According to Mark Foster, senior brand manager for Avalon Hill, the first three "new" Avalon Hill games will be available in December, with two more due out in the first quarter of 2000.

Much of Avalon Hill's extensive back catalog remains available through a fax order form available at the company's Web site. Foster said he expects to sell the games "for as long as people want to buy them," but couldn't name a specific date when they will no longer be available.

"One of the things we hope to do on the site," he added, "is to get a feel for what kind of classic games consumers want refreshed."
Foster has worked at Hasbro for five years, the last 30 months in the U.S. and the 30 before that in the U.K. He said he used to play Diplomacy in school and is familiar with some of the more popular Avalon Hill games like Axis and Allies, but noted that some were bigger sellers in the U.S. than in his home country.
