What would a perfect night of gaming look like?

The answer, of course, will vary from gamer to gamer and family to family. My list would include one or two games I've never played before, along with several favorites (like Acquire, Elfenland, and Torres). A card game or two (maybe Lost Cities, Dia de los Muertos, or Corruption), along with at least one party game (Time's Up or Fib or Not?, perhaps).

Winning isn't required to make a gaming night great, or even perfect, but it doesn't hurt! The real fun comes in the social experience -- seeing friends, talking about whatever comes up -- and in the ability to use my brain in ways I don't ordinarily get to.

Well, though I play games for the social aspect, I also play to win, so I don't think the night could be perfect without that. We play new games pretty much every (monthly) meeting, though my wife isn't always keen on that, and I can sympathise (though I can blame my losses on someone not having explained the rules properly...). It's nice to play a game a few times to get a feel of it.

How long is the perfect gaming evening? We tend to play fairly slowly, I think (much analysis/decision crisis) -- our sessions normally last from around 2.30 till 10.30 (with dinner thrown in) and we normally get through only three or four games. It's a rare game that finishes in under two hours for us. If we had evening meets we'd only get one game in. My perfect gaming evening will be when(if) I trounce everybody at Serenissima! Still think that's a fantastic game.

Hmmm, Well we aren't big on the game night concept here. Usually gaming days start around noon on Saturday and go all day and well into the night.

I don't have to win, which is a very good thing as I usually don't. I'm just not as into keeping track of stuff.

Perfect day of game playing (that means getting someone to play all the games I like even though I have terrible taste): Escape from Colditz, Settlers Card Game, some group shouting game like Pictionary or the like, Square Off, Pathfinder (those two play so fast that we'd have to play 10 or 12 rounds), Wizwar, and just because I can never get anyone to play it: Escape from N.Y. Finish of with a couple of rubbers of bridge. That would be a fun day for me. My husband would list off much better games I'm sure. *grin*

Wow! More than one game a night?!? Imagine that! We usually play Risk or Blackbeard; and we never get in more than one game a night. ;) The last time we got together, I did bring my newest game, Pillage & Plunder. But we ended up playing it 3 times in a row.
