Inside Toy Fair 2000 (part 5)
Added Feb. 18, 2000
More News

Cherise Lambert, inventor of the movie trivia board game Mad About Movies, currently is in New York City at the International Toy Fair trying to win attention for her game. Cherise has agreed to writie a series of daily reports to give those of us who couldn't make the event an inside look at what we're missing.

Following is her fourth report.

Day 5 at Toy Fair 2000 (Thursday, February 17)

Today was a pretty relaxed day. Buyers were few and far between. Most of the gamers spent the day playing each others' games and bartering for some take-home copies. We have really enjoyed getting to know the other inventors from Mutual Mania, Zobmondo!!, Apples to Apples and Perfect Timing.

If anybody reading this has plans to invent a board game, I highly recommend getting to know another inventor(s) who already has a product on the market. Their knowledge can cut one year or more off the time it would take for your product to reach store shelves. Mad About Movies would not be at this stage if other inventors hadn't shared their advice and information with us over the past year, particularly Rick Reed (For the Record) and Bill Stephenson (Spy Alley), and for that I will be forever grateful.

Cool New Products at Toy Fair

Over the past 5 days, we found a little time to wander outside of the Game Zone to scope out the new toys.

One product that caught our eye at the show was a robotic dog from Sony. It's quite expensive ($2,500), but it was fun to watch and I find the whole idea of robotics intriguing. It can be trained how to play with a ball, how to sit up, how to shake hands, etc., by giving it positive reinforcement such as petting it on its head -- quite facinating!

If you have kids, watch out for the new plastic oven sets and tool benches. They are so cool! The fake ovens we had in the '70s look like ancient artifacts in comparison.

Toy Fair 2000 officially closed its doors at 2:00 today. While our work here in New York has ended, our work has really just begun. Now it is time to follow-up on the piles of leads, process all the new orders and prepare for more production.

Watch for Mad About Movies to explode during this year's holiday season!
