Cherise Lambert, inventor of the movie trivia board game Mad About Movies, currently is in New York City at the International Toy Fair trying to win attention for her game. Cherise has agreed to writie a series of daily reports to give those of us who couldn't make the event an inside look at what we're missing.
Following is her third report.
Day 3 at Toy Fair 2000 (Tuesday, February 15)
It was a beautiful sunny morning in NYC. The 24 block walk was pleasant. Again, traffic at the Javitz Center was a little lighter than the day before. Either most buyers left after the weekend, or they were visiting the big toy company showrooms around town.
With all the buzz on the Internet about German games, I had hoped to focus tonight's report around them. I headed to the German aisle on the main floor with excitement to discover these games that I had read so much about. To my disappointment, there were no games in the German isle -- only dolls, doll wigs, die cast models, etc. :-(

What has surprised me about our experience at the Toy Fair is the number of foreign companies with an immediate interest in licensing Mad About Movies in their native languages.
I had always assumed that our first translated expansion product would be in Spanish and several years away. However, we have had several people very interested in translating and/or licensing Mad About Movies for sale in Greece, Sweden and the U.K. We also had someone ask if we would translate it into Hebrew!
Now, I had expected Mad About Movies to have a global presence someday, but I figured maybe three to five years from now, after the game was well established in the U.S. It was an unexpected, but pleasant surprise to see the interest so soon.
Toy Fair has been a very exciting and overwhelming experience for us so far. Since this was our first Toy Fair, we came with the modest goal of picking up a few more independent game stores, small chains and a few catalogs. We seem to have exceeded this goal so far. It will be interesting to see what percentage of leads turn into acual sales. I'll be sure to let you know!
