McLincha's talent of "drubbling" -- dribbling and juggling three basketballs while running marathons -- has earned him a place in history as a Trivial Pursuit question in this special edition game. McLincha's question about "drubbling" was selected from more than 800 entries submitted in Hasbro's "Be In The Trivial Pursuit Game Contest."
The month-long contest, which ran in February 2002, called for consumers to submit a proposed Trivial Pursuit question about a unique happening or event in which they participated. In keeping with the 20th anniversary spirit, this unique feat must have occurred between the years 1982 and 2002.
While McLincha's rare talent of dribbling and juggling three basketballs may seem trivial, his pursuit is anything but. McLincha takes his "drubbling" skills to the street in marathons across the country to raise funds for cancer research. When asked how he felt about being selected as the winner of this contest, McLincha said, "It's really cool! I was one of the first players in the early 1980s to buy the game. In fact, now whenever I play with my family, it's usually them playing against me. If there was ever a game that I should be in, this is the one."
Here's how McLincha's question will read in the "Game Time" category of the Trivial Pursuit 20th Anniversary Edition.
Q: "What does juggler Riley McLincha do with three basketballs while running marathons, in a sport he has named 'drubbling'?"
A: "Dribbles them."
In addition to being immortalized in the Trivial Pursuit 20th Anniversary Edition, McLincha's winning entry, which will appear under the "Game Time" category, also won him a $500 prize.
"We received hundreds of entries -- many obscure and interesting -- but Riley's unusual talent was certainly the most worthy of being included in this special edition of the game," said John Chandler, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Hasbro Games.
Riley, also known as "The Wizard of Clio", began "drubbling" in 1993 when inclement weather forced him to finish poorly in a 10-mile race. McLincha vowed that from that point forward he would jog for fun rather than competition and began to juggle basketballs while he ran. Soon after, he added dribbling to the mix and the sport of "drubbling" was born.
