Out of the Box Publishing, the company responsible for the fantastic party game Apples to Apples (compare prices), has recently released a batch of new games:

  • Basari - A new edition of a game designed by Richard Staupe and originally published in 1998. Combines elements of rock-paper-scissors with negotiation. For 3 to 4 players. Scheduled for release in October 2002.

  • Qwitch - Designed by Maureen Hiron, this fast-paced game (less than 5 minutes) was previously known as Switch. Players try to get rid of their cards by playing them in sequence game involving playing cards in sequence. For 3 to 5 players.

  • Gold Digger - Designed by Reiner Knizia with artwork by John Kovalik. Players compete to strike it rich. For 2 to 5 players. Scheduled for release in August 2002.

  • Squint - The first reaction I had when playing Squint is that it's a fantastic new game for fans of Pictionary. A review of Squint is available. For 3 to 8 players. A Junior version appears to be in development.

  • Wheedle - A game of "freewheeling stock trading" designed by Reiner Knizia. For 3 to 6 players. Scheduled for release in October 2002.

Out of the Box also has announced plans to release a series of wooden games, with the first four (Cityscape, Fire and Ice, Octiles, and Quadtria) scheduled to be released in October 2002.
