According to Rio Grande, players compete to build temples on five building sites. The players build the temples level by level, using cards played on their side of the board.
The cards represent the different tribes that lived in the area at the time of Babel, and each one has a special power. For example, one tribe allows a player to demolish one of his opponent's temples. Another allows you to steal a temple card. The components include two stone temple tokens, the board and full-sized cards.
One player described the gameplay as "tense," calling Babel "a healthy mix of luck... with some skillful play."
The suggested retail price for Babel, designed by Hagen Dorgathen and Uwe Rosenberg (Bohnanza), is $19.95. The game is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2001.
The 2-player game is recommended for ages 12 and up, with an estimated playing time of 30 to 60 minutes.
