"We're thrilled with the response to this competition," said Erik Arneson, who runs About Board Games and is vice-president of the Strategy Gaming Society. "And now we want to make sure that the judges aren't rushed as they consider who will win our inaugural competition."

The sponsoring organizations -- the Strategy Gaming Society, Abstract Games magazine, and About Board Games -- have decided to extend the judging period through the end of March 2001 to ensure that the judges have enough time to properly evaluate every game.

Winners now are expected to be announced in early April 2001.
