Following is some basic information about many of the upcoming games from Rio Grande, provided by the company:

  • Cartagena celebrates the famous pirate escape from Cartagena.

  • The Princes of Florence, by Wolfgang Kramer and Richard Ulrich, is set in Italy during the Renaissance. Players assume the roles of the heads of Italian aristocratic families. They become patrons, providing the proper environment to inspire the artists and scholars of the age to create magnificent works. The better the environment, the better the work and the more money and prestige the player earns for it. In the end, the player with the most prestige is the winner. Princes of Florence is for 3 to 5 players, aged 12 and up; 75-100 minutes.

  • Java, by Wolfgang Kramer and Michael Kiesling (the team behind Tikal and Torres), features an island with great potential for development. Of special interest is the undeveloped area of central Java with its fertile soil and rich natural resources. These riches are much desired by the rulers of the regions that surround central Java. Each player is one of the Javanese rulers, who wants to claim and develop the region for himself. Players earn fame points for building and enlarging palaces, for creating irrigation systems, and for arranging palace festivals. The player with the most fame points after the final scoring is the winner. Java is for 2 to 4 players, aged 12 and up; 90 minutes.

  • Tally Ho!, by Rudi Hoffman, finds the hunter becoming the hunted. One player takes the role of the hunters and the lumberjacks; the other takes the role of the foxes and bears. Both players hunt each other! At first, the forest lies peacefully under the face down tiles. As the players turn the tiles over and move them on the board, the forest awakens and the hunt destroys the serenity of the forest. The lumberjacks cut swaths through the forest to provide hunting fields for the hunters. The bears then use these same aisles to track the hunters and lumberjacks. Tally Ho! is for 2 players, aged 8 and up; 40 minutes.

  • Time Pirates, by Alan Moon and Aaron Weissblum, sends players through time to acquire collections of artifacts for fun and profit. The players are pirates of the future who brave the plagues and wars of ancient times to collect the treasures of those times. Collected sets of treasures are sold in the bazaar. The player who sells the most before time runs out is the winner. Time Pirates is for 3-6 players, aged 10 and up; 60 minutes.
