Amazon.com, in what one observer called a "high-profile consolidation in online toy retailing," has teamed with ToysRUs.com to develop a toy and video game Web site (presumably including at least some board games), along with a site devoted to baby products.

Reports indicate the sites will use both the Amazon.com and ToysRUs.com brand names, with the toy and game site set to open this fall. The baby products store won't be unveiled until sometime next year.

The agreement calls for Amazon.com to handle site development, order fulfillment and customer service. ToysRUs.com will be responsible for buying and managing inventory. The deal is said to be for 10 years.
