New Acquire "Quantum Leap" Ahead in Quality
Added Feb. 5, 2000
More News

The upcoming "refreshed" version of Acquire, scheduled to be released by Avalon Hill in the near future, will include components that mark a "quantum leap" forward in terms of quality, according to a company spokesman.

Does this version of Acquire sound like a keeper to you? Share your thoughts on this news and anything else related to board games on the Board Games Forum.

Rob Daviau said in a recent post to the Internet newsgroup rec.games.board that "the gameboard, tiles, and company markers are all plastic. The tiles actually lock into the board and rise up about an inch from it. The company caps are the tops of skyscrapers, two short ones, three medium ones, and two tall ones. When the game gets going, you have gray tiles on a black board with building caps. It looks beautiful. Stock certificates and money are nice quality."

Nothing has changed as it relates to gameplay, Daviau added, except that the new game reverts to the original rules. "That is, we've taken out the additional rules/cards out that are in the most recent version (the one still on sale)," he explained.

Most, if not all, of the companies in the game have been renamed and the theme has been changed from hotels to the high-tech industry. "This was done for a few reasons, mainly to update the feel to the modern player but also because we didn't own the trademarks to any of the names (go figure)," Daviau said.
