Scene It?
Subtitled "The DVD Movie Game," Scene It? is published by Screenlife. Scene It? combines a movie trivia and party game with innovative DVD technology. The game features hundreds of film clips from about 180 movies released by five major studios: 20th Century Fox, Dreamworks-SKG, MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Universal Studios.
Screenlife recently announced that it sold 30,000 games nationwide since its mid-October 2002 release. According to the company, Scene It? outsold other popular games, such as Cranium, Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit, in their first selling seasons.
"As the first ever DVD board game, we felt that Scene It? would be a top seller in our stores," said Steve Weiss, retail buyer for Wizards of the Coast. "Scene It? was a perfect fit for our Top 10 Games holiday promotion. It is a very innovative game and we anticipated it would be the surprise hit of the season due to the increasing popularity of DVDs."
Dave Long, founder and CEO of Screenlife, said, "The idea for this game started at my annual Halloween party and when I saw the potential of DVD technology, I knew Scene It? could become a reality. With DVD players being the fastest adopted electronic of all time, there is a tremendous opportunity to revolutionize the gaming industry. Based on the positive reception and excitement from customers, retailers and Hollywood studios, we are currently working on other editions of the game."
Scene It? is for 2 to 4 players or teams, ages 13 and up. The basic game comes with 600 trivia cards, more than 700 DVD-based questions, four pewter tokens, a game board, and the game rules. The DVD includes an on-screen game demo for those who don't like to read the rules.
At Toy Fair, Screenlife announced plans for future products including:
- The first Scene It? Sequel, featuring 700 new DVD questions, 300 new trivia cards, and new question categories. Future sequels are planned, including additional movie editions, classic television, music and sports.
- Scene It? Junior, designed for players ages 8 to 12. The junior game features questions about both movies and television.
