Summary

Rock, Paper, Scissors is back, and this time, it's personal. No longer satisfied with being a child's pasttime, Rock, Paper and Scissors have all gone into business against each other: Rocks Inc, Paper Inc, and Scissors Inc. No, not very creative, but hey. Your job is to invest in these rising new companies and make more money than your opponent. How? Well, by playing Rock, Paper, Scissors of course!

Components

  • 2 hands (one for each player)
  • Several Red Chips (representing Rock stock)
  • Several White Chips (representing Paper stock)
  • Several Blue Chips (representing Scissor stock)
  • 1 Black Chip (game timer)
  • One sheet of paper to make your stock market tracker

[Note: The above colors are arbitrary. Any color(s) can be used as long as all players know ahead of time which color represents which stock.]

Preparation

Create a stock market tracker that looks like this:

Place one Red chip, one White chip, one Blue chip, and the Black chip at the '1' symbol on the upper row. This signifies that all stocks (Red, White, Blue) start off being worth 1 (lower row) and can never go lower. It signifies something else for the black chip, but I'll get to that momentarily.

Place the remaining Red, White and Blue chips off to the side.

To Play

Each turn begins with a "game" of RPS. However, this time there is a 4th option, the THUMBS DOWN. Let's look at all the possibilities:

  • ROCK: Balled Fist
  • PAPER: Five Fingers
  • SCISSORS: Two Fingers
  • THUMB: Thumb Down

When you win a typical "game", you take two chips in that stock. For example:

  • ROCK/PAPER: Paper player takes 2 White Chips
  • PAPER/SCISSORS: Scissors player takes 2 Blue Chips
  • SCISSORS/ROCK: Rock player takes 2 Red Chips

When you tie a typical "game", you advance that stock 1 space on the board.

  • ROCK/ROCK: Advance the Red Chip 1 space on board
  • PAPER/PAPER: Advance the White Chip 1 space on board
  • SCISSORS/SCISSORS: Advance the Blue Chip 1 space on board
[Note: The value of a stock is indicated on the lower row. A chip on space #5 is at value 3 and will not rise to value 4 until it reaches space #8.]

If one player plays a THUMBS DOWN, the other player loses 1 chip in the stock he played.

ROCK/THUMB: Rock player loses 1 Red Chip PAPER/THUMB: Paper player loses 1 White Chip SCISSORS/THUMB: Scissors player loses 1 Blue Chip If both players play THUMBS DOWN, then advance the Black Chip 1 space on the board.

IMPORTANT: Neither player can play two THUMBS DOWN in a row.

Game End and Scoring

The game ends as soon as one chip (red, white, blue, or black) reaches the 11th space on the board.

Each player totals the value of their stock in hand. Each chip they own earns points equal to the value it reached on the lower row. Example: A player has 5 Red Chips. Red is on space #9. That player will earn 4 points for each Red chip (20 pts).

Whoever has the most points wins.
