Components and Setup

The game is played on a 12x12 checkered board.

At the begining of the game, the board containss 72 black pieces on the 72 black cells and 72 white pieces on the 72 white cells. These pieces are called 'the black and white territory' respectively.

Besides, each player has 5 numbered pieces (from 1 to 5). These pieces are called 'the troops.'

The board can also be called the virgin island.

At the beginnin of the game, players must agree how many troops reach the island by sea and how many troops reach the island by air.

The Invasion (first move)

Players annotate secretely where they will place their troops on the board. Friendly troops can only be placed on friendly territory.

Observation: A troop which reached the island by air must be placed on any friendly territory piece, but a troop which reached the island by sea must be placed on a friendly territory place on the edge of the board.

Action Starts

During a turn a troop can only do one of these possible actions:

  • Do nothing.
  • Make a move: The troop moves to an adyacent friendly territory piece. Note: This must always be a diagonal move.
  • Destroy: Removes one of the adyacent opponent's territory piece.

Therefore, players secretely annotate their troop's actions.

At the beggining of the game each player has 5 troops so during a turn he might do an action per each troop. Observation: Drawing an arrow is enough to indicate the direction of the move or the relative position of the territory pieces that the troop will destroy.

Next, players execute the actions in the following order:

  • The movements.
  • The destructions.
Observation: If there is an opponent troop on a opponent territory piece that is going to be removed, this troop must complete its action before it died.

The End

A conected group of territory pieces is controlled by its army, if and only if there is at least one troop on a piece that belongs to that group.

If there is a connected path that is not controlled by its side, this territory is lost and might be removed from the board.

The game finishes when players can not destroy more opposite territories.

Each player counts the number of controlled territory pieces she has. The player controlling more pieces wins the game. Of course, the game can be drawn if both players get the same number of territory pieces.

Observation: If a player loses all his troops, also loses all his territory.

* This game could be played on board of different sizes. The 10x10 board seems to be the minimum board which makes the game interesting.

* This version of the game could be called the 'wild variant', The 'quiet variant' only permits to use a troop per turn, and of course that troop can only do a single action per turn. The quiet variant is playable on smaller boards. (The 8x8 board seems to be the minimum board which makes the quiet variant game interesting.)
