The folks who made Trivial Pursuit are probably in that category...

Marty
The guy who invented pictionary was paid $3 million. That was for total world wide rights.

MadAboutMovies
Yeah, probably the Trivial Pursuit guys are the richest.

boardgamesADM
$3 million is nice -- wonder how much he would have made if he went with royalties?

MadAboutMovies
You can get both. A licensing fee plus a royalty percentage.

Marty
They refused him royalties It was $3 million or nothing.

millou
I would take the 3mill.

MadAboutMovies
Me too!

darkknight
me 2.

darkknight
i think the highest paid pepes r the pepes who made monopoly.

Questions or comments about designing a board game? Post them on the Board Games Forum.

boardgamesADM
darkknight -- Actually, since Monopoly was created around 1935, I doubt the "inventor" ever got a ton of money. Hasbro has made lots, but probably not the inventor.

millou
I read last month that Monopoly had hit the 200,000,000 games mark last year.

Marty
JamesGames or Games Games from Canada paid the $3 million. They told the inventor...look you will never have to work again...take the $3 million.

boardgamesADM
$3 million is tempting, but I bet he would have done a *lot* better with royalties. Should have held out... (Easy for me to say!)

Marty
Well that was back about 10 years ago or so. It was worth more then.

millou
The 3 mill is far exceeded now.

MadAboutMovies
Do you have a website millou?

millou
http://www.millenniumboardgames.com/

boardgamesADM
millou -- where do you get your games manufactured?

millou
Our first 5000 were done at Loch Moy in Buffalo, NY.

MadAboutMovies
millou, I've never heard of them. Would you recommend them?

millou
Definitely. Our game board was really nice at the show, especially with the glow in dark. Not too many folks do that.

boardgamesADM
TO ALL: Steve Martin and John Candy appeared in what 1987 comedy?

MadAboutMovies
I know, I know!!

Marty
Trains, Planes and Automobiles.

Dragon
I was trying to think of that.

Marty
Cherise do you dropship your game from your packaging company?

MadAboutMovies
They have a warehouse. I send them in bulk to larger companies' distribution centers and drop ship to small, independent stores.

boardgamesADM
TO ALL: Meg Ryan played Annie Reed in what 1993 romantic comedy?

darkknight
sleepless in seattle

boardgamesADM
darkknight, that's right!

darkknight
LOL kool

MadAboutMovies
Can I answer any final questions for anyone before I leave at 8:00? (Gotta get back to work!)

Marty
Cherise how long did it take you to go from idea to the market place?

MadAboutMovies
6 years from idea...4 years from the starting point.

millou
We started Millennium Vacation last February and had it in the stores on November 14 -- not quite in time for this past Christmas.

boardgamesADM
Cherise, what can look for from Mad About Movies this year?

Board Games Chat Room

MadAboutMovies
We should be well distributed across the country and we plan to release a travel edition in June.

Marty
My wife just said she wants to buy your game!

MadAboutMovies
Cool! She can get it at http://www.madaboutmovies.com/.

millou
I'll have to get one also.

Marty
You can count on my order.

Dragon
Are you still working on the basic game or are you expanding it now?

boardgamesADM TO ALL: Robert Hayes played Ted Striker in what 1980 comedy?

Dragon
Airplane?

MadAboutMovies
Oh, that's too easy!

boardgamesADM
Dragon -- right!

MadAboutMovies
How many movies was Robert Hayes in anyway?

Marty
Seven.

boardgamesADM
I say three movies.

MadAboutMovies
I'd say 2...Airplane and Airplane 2.

MadAboutMovies
But that's just a guess.

boardgamesADM
I added a third to give him the benefit of the doubt!

boardgamesADM
Cherise, thanks very much for joining us tonight. I appreciate it very much!

MadAboutMovies
Thanks for having me. It was a pleasure!

Marty
Good luck with your plans.

Dragon
Thanks for the info, and good luck to your future.

MadAboutMovies
Thank you. You too. Hope to see you at Toy Fair next year.
