Board Games Survivor Island - Amazon Edition

It was the final week in the Board Games Survivor Island game, and Tigris and Euphrates was eliminated, making Puerto Rico the sole survivor.

Here's a look at the percentage of vote received by Puerto Rico, week by week, with the percentage received by the eliminated game for that week and the difference between the two in parentheses:

  • Week 1, 11% (46% / 35%)
  • Week 2, 22% (44% / 22%)
  • Week 3, 18% (32% / 14%)
  • Week 4, 20% (35% / 15%)
  • Week 5, 13% (28% / 15%)
  • Week 6, not involved in elimination vote
  • Week 7, 22% (36% / 14%)
  • Week 8, not involved in elimination vote
  • Week 9, 15% (35% / 20%)
  • Week 10, 19% (37% / 18%)
  • Week 11, 25% (44% / 19%)
  • Week 12, 44% (56% / 12%)
Puerto Rico was never in serious danger of being eliminated -- not once was it within 12% of the eliminated game.

The closest that Puerto Rico came to being eliminated (not counting the final vote) was in week 3 (when Scrabble was eliminated from its tribe), and week 7 (when Modern Art was eliminated).

Thanks to everyone who voted, and especially to those who entered one or both of the two contests attached to this edition of Board Games Survivor Island.

Games I Can See While Sitting At My Computer

Near the computer this week are two games from the Sid Sackson collection and a new one picked up at Toys R Us this week.

  • Knock Out, from Milton Bradley (a 1975 abstract game)

  • Finding Nemo, from Milton Bradley (a 2003 tile-laying race game)

  • Temptation, from The Games Gang (a 1990 game that appears to combine Can't Stop with an abstract strategy game)

Game Review of the Week

Finding Nemo

If your children are fans of the Finding Nemo movie from Disney and Pixar, this game is a great way to spend some time playing a really good board game with them.

About Board Games Forum Post of the Week

From Randy Cox:

Are there three Crazy Races -- (1) 1994 - the foot race for up to 4 players; (2) something with monsters/creatures; (3) a train game?

Read about all three games named Crazy Race in the About Board Games Forum.

About Something Else Site of the Week

If I had any confidence that it would work, I'd probably support Sen. Bill Nelson's anti-spam legislation. About.com's Guide to the U.S. Government, Robert Longley, shares some of the details.

Green Bay Packers Notes of the Week

Not much real news in Packerland this week, but this bit of info will close the loop on the eBay sale of Brett Favre's house: According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, "an undetermined number of bidders were not legitimate" and so the auction was scrapped. The folks selling the house said in a J-S article that they're not upset; their main goal in selling via eBay was to gain exposure.

Prediction: The Packers go 16-0 this year and win the Super Bowl. You heard it here first.

Other Off-Topic Thoughts of the Week

It hurts to be a 76ers fan today. But I believe in Coach Brown and I believe in AI. (And Aaron McKie is a fellow Temple grad.) So I look forward to next season.
