Who Reads the Game Boxes?
It's been more than a year since a "Who Reads the Game Boxes?" quiz was added to the site, but now a new 10-question quiz is available. The goal is to read some promotional text that's found on a game box and then identify the game it's taken from. Here's the first one:
"Use the building blocks to build the castles and then move your knights into the top scoring positions. If you choose to guard the king, he will be grateful."
Does that text come from King of the Elves, Citadels, Torres, or Castle?
Games I'm Playing
Beth and I visited our friends Tom and Dana again this week; Mark and Amy also joined us. Games played included Fist of Dragonstones, Wheedle, Crokinole, Can't Stop, and Settlers of Catan. A full session report will be ready for next week's SMG.
Board Games Survivor Island - Amazon Edition
This week in the Board Games Survivor Island game, Citadels was eliminated. Only 7 of the original 25 games remain on the island.
By next Thursday morning, one of these games will be eliminated: Acquire, Modern Art, Puerto Rico, Settlers of Catan.
Boardgame Top Picks List of the Week
Hitting the road -- or the water, or the rails, or the air -- can be a trying experience. But if you're prepared with something to pass the time, your trip will seem much shorter. These board games -- my picks for the best travel games -- are all designed to go along with you.
If you enjoy auction games with blind bidding, Fist of Dragonstones will be a welcome addition to your game collection.

About Something Else Site of the Week
War provides fertile soil for rumors. One of the most recent was that one of Vice-President Cheney's daughters was traveling to Iraq to become a "human shield." Not true. And About.com's Guide to Urban Legends, David Emery, has the details on this -- as he does on just about every urban legend and netlore item you can think of. (By the way, Sen. Daschle never recited the pledge of allegiance using his left hand.)
Green Bay Packers Notes of the Week
The Packers dodged a bullet this week after linebacker Na'il Diggs (a restricted free agent) signed an offer sheet with the Detroit Lions. He's 24 years old and probably the best linebacker we had on the field last season. We needed him back. And, fortunately, we matched the offer sheet and signed him to a four-year deal. Now the team's focus turns to re-signing defensive end and sack specialist Kabeer Gbaja Biamila, also known as KGB.
Prediction: The Packers will find a way to keep KGB on the team.
Other Off-Topic Thoughts of the Week
How long was 24 off the air? Too long, but it was well worth the wait with this week's episode, and two months' worth more of new episodes coming up. Keifer Sutherland has been a favorite actor of mine since 1987's The Lost Boys and 1988's Young Guns. I think he does a great job as Jack Bauer, and this season's plot has consistently kept me on the edge of my seat. Fantastic entertainment.

Game Review of the Week
The Origins Award is a complete joke, at least as far as our corner of the hobby is concerned. Puerto Rico is in the Sci-Fi Fantasy category! They have clearly shown time and time again that they don't have a clue about boardgames.
