Games I'm Playing
I played three games of Boggle at Games.com last night, and every time my rating went down -- despite my belief that I was doing pretty well. The people who hang out at Games.com on Friday night know how to play some serious Boggle.
But the big news is that our new Crokinole board arrived yesterday from Sawdust Jim (James Thompson). We bought it via a Dutch auction on eBay and expect to spend many hours playing it.
Board Games Survivor Island - Amazon Edition
This week in the Board Games Survivor Island game, Princes of Florence was eliminated -- in a vote that required us to create a tie-breaker mechanism. We went with total votes cast, and in this case Princes of Florence's 105 total votes was enough to send it off the island when compared to Modern Art's 101 total votes.
Eight games remain; this week one of these four must go: Age of Steam, Citadels, El Grande, or Tigris and Euphrates.
Games I Can See While Sitting At My Computer
In addition to the new Crokinole board, which is on our dining room table (a great place for its permanent location; I'll suggest that to my wife later this weekend and see what response I get), one game is nearby right now:
In honor of the new Crokinole board in our house, here's a look at my picks for the Best Dexterity Games.
Clever and quick, Clans is one of the rare 30-minute strategy games that feels much more substantial.

Did you follow along with the discussion this week about the 50 most historically and culturally relevant games published since 1800? If not, here's the most recent full compilation of the list. Or you can start from the very beginning. Either way, please share your own thoughts on what games belong on this list.

About Something Else Site of the Week
It's amazing how many new DVDs are released each week. About.com's Guide to Home Video and DVDs, Ivana Redwine (what a great name!), maintains what I think is the best site to keep up with the never-ending onslaught.
(As an example, this week's new DVD released include: 8 Mile, Abandon, Auto Focus, Empire, The Grey Zone, The Man from Elysian Fields, Personal Velocity, Pokemon 4ever, Roger Dodger, and Welcome to Collinwood. Wow.)
Green Bay Packers Notes of the Week
Restricted free agent Kabeer Gbaja Biamila, our pass-rush specialist (who played better against the run last year, but he's still a sack artist first and foremost), tried to get a $14 million signing bonus from the Philadelphia Eagles. They turned him down, and now he's apparently back within the reach of the Packers to sign. They could either ink a long-term deal (which I think would be best if it can be done without creating serious salary cap issues down the road), or to a one-year deal after which he'll be an unrestricted free agent and can test the market again.
Prediction: KGB remains a Packer for many more years after they ink a long-term deal this week.
Other Off-Topic Thoughts of the Week
If you haven't voted yet in the poll to help choose Pennsylvania's official state cookie, please do. If you're interested in game shows, be sure to catch Big Bucks: The Press Your Luck Scandal when it airs on the Game Show Network. If you like late night talk shows and you haven't seen The Michael Essany Show, it's worth taking a peek.
