American Idol Board Game

Fans of the American Idol television show might want to consider buying this, the first American Idol board game, if they really want the sing-along CD, but there's nothing else that makes it worthy of a purchase. Don't go in expecting anything more than a game that lets you sing some karaoke.

There's not much to say about this game because it isn't much of a game; it's little more than an attempt to exploit the popularity of American Idol. There's no evidence at all that actual thought was put into the game development.

Players roll a die and move, collecting cards. Sometimes, they're allowed to trade a card with another player. Eventually, the get the cards needed to move to the Finalist area and, when a second player arrives, to the Grand Finale area.

They then roll two dice, sing along to the corresponding song (song #7, which will come up the most, is Britney Spears' "Oops I Did It Again"), and then a Telephone Votes card is drawn to see whether the player moves forward or backward.

That's it. No thought or skill required. A completely mindless experience that I cannot imagine will satisfy anyone, even the most diehard Idol fans.
