The Bottom Line

Buzzword should be enjoyed by fans of party/word games like Taboo and Catchphrase.

Pros
  • Works with players of various abilities.
  • Play is done on teams.
  • Fast-paced game; can be played twice in one night.
Cons
  • Clue reader is constrained to what's on the card.

Description

  • For 4 or more players, ages 10 and up, in 2 teams.
  • Published by Patch Products.
  • Comes with 400 sets of Buzzword clues on 200 double-sided cards.
  • Also comes with a 45-second sand timer, 10 scoring cards, a scoreboard and marker.

Guide Review - Buzzword

If the buzzword is "cat," the clue might be "fuzzy swamp plant" -- and the answer would be "cattail." For "cheese," one clue is "Packers fans' fashionable headgear," with the answer being "cheesehead."

In the party game Buzzword, each card has a set of ten clues and answers; each answer includes the buzzword. One player reads the clues while his teammates guess the answers. They have 45 seconds to get as many as possible correct; when time expires, their opponents can steal any that they passed on. Each correct answer is worth a point, and the first team to 50 wins.

Buzzword doesn't appeal to me as much as Catchphrase, for example, but it is a very good game. If the description here makes you think you'd like it, you probably will.
