By , About.com Guide

Warcraft, a popular computer game series, will be made into a board game by Fantasy Flight Games.

According to a press release, FFG will publish "a large, expandable board game that captures the richness and complexity of the hugely successful Warcraft real-time strategy computer games. Innovative designs will portray the real-time strategy element of the computer games and make time itself a resource."

The Warcraft Board Game is slated for release before Christmas 2003.

Beginning with Warcraft: Orcs and Humans in 1994, the Warcraft computer game series has garnered many awards, including Game of the Year and Best Multiplayer Game. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos was cited as the fastest-selling PC game ever, selling over a million copies in its first week of release.

FFG CEO Christian T. Petersen said in the press release, "Warcraft is an incredible property with a huge and loyal following. As a longtime fan of the Warcraft games, I can't state enough how exciting it is to be able to introduce face-to-face interaction and the tactile elements of board games to this property."

"We're very pleased to be entering into this partnership with Fantasy Flight Games," Paul Sams, Blizzard Entertainment's senior vice president of business operations, said in the same release. "We look forward to offering computer gamers a new perspective on the scope and depth of Warcraft while also introducing board game players to a new universe."
