If this is your first time to play Monopoly at Games.com, I recommend that you click on the "Watch" tab and then select a game to view. You do this by clicking on the "Watch 175" button (the number will probably be different) in the middle of an oval with at least two names around it. If you scroll through the list of active games, you'll probably see some with two players, some with three and a few with four.
When you click to watch a game, that game will load. Again, this could take some time depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
When the game loads, the screen will again have three main areas although they're a little different.
- On the left is the game board.
- On the right, you'll see Mr. Monopoly on top of the player list. Mr. Monopoly makes comments throughout the game; the player list includes the player names, which tokens are whose, and how much money they have.
- Below the player names, there's a box that's used for two purposes. First, the game record is kept here -- "Arneson pays $20 to SirLoin," "Arneson collects $200 salary," etc. Second, registered players (not guests) can chat in this area.
Note: On the far left side of the screen in the Lobby, you'll see a link called "The Rules." Click on this and a small window of Monopoly rules will pop up. They include the rules for Monopoly, as well as information on how to play Monopoly online using the Games.com interface. Review these at least once before playing your first game.
Joining Someone Else's Game
Before deciding to join a game, move your mouse cursor over the game and let it sit there for a second. You'll see a description of the game (e.g. "Rated / Collect 2x Salary / Short Game") which will help you determine whether you want to join.
To join someone else's game from the lobby, look for (or wait for) a game under the "Join" tab and then click on one of the open seats (marked by the word "join").
