Four Questions with Frank DiLorenzo

Monday August 1, 2005
Frank DiLorenzo is the head of R&R Games, publishers of Time's Up, Smarty Party and the upcoming You Must Be an Idiot. They also manufacture Hide & Seek Safari, a very cool toy/game that involves hiding a tiger and using an electronic "stick" to help find it -- kind of a high-tech version of the children's game Hot and Cold.

Q: What's your favorite recently played (for the first time) game?

Frank DiLorenzo: Oriente. Love it. Simple to pick up and quick to play but lots of up and down movement in the scoring department. The rules could have been better written but hey, I'm one to talk, eh! The theme fits well too.

Only drawback is that you need more than a few people for a good game, but otherwise it's a really fun little game.

Q: What game do you want to play most that you haven't played yet?

Frank DiLorenzo: Shadows of Camelot. Hasn't appeared in my game group yet and I haven't picked up a copy myself either. But from what I've read and heard about it, it sounds like a game I'd definitely enjoy, especially with the intrigue factor. Plus any game with a traitor in it is right up my alley. (A werewolf you say? Ridiculous, don't be silly...)

Q: How well is Hide & Seek Safari doing, and how big do you think it will become?

Frank DiLorenzo: Hide & Seek Safari is doing exceptionally well... the game pretty much took off right out of the gate. It has picked up three key awards so far and is up for some pretty big awards this fall. It's already appeared on TV on Regis & Kelly Live as one of the Hot Picks from this year's Toy Fair as well as Prime Time Live ABC as one of this year's hottest inventions.

I have no doubt this is going to be one of those really big hits where eventually every kid is going to want one of these. The beauty of it is the simplicity... takes only an instant to pick up and play. So far so good!

Q: When are you going to manufacture the Hide & Seek Safari warthog?

Frank DiLorenzo: Hmmm, odd, that doesn't seem to be on the list yet. Love it. Brilliant idea, we're on it. That reminds me, we welcome anyone to vote for their favorite animal to be next up in production either by emailing us with their suggestion to tiger@rnrgames.com or using our handy voting system once it appears on our website (www.rnrgames.com).
