I'm a big fan of Peter Jackson's first three Lord of the Rings movies (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ran on too long). One of the best side effects of those films has been the release of many great LotR-themed board games, like Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation and Lord of the Rings: The Card Game.
Another recent LotR-themed game is Lord of the Rings: Dice Building Game, designed by Mike Elliott, Eric M. Lang, Brett Myers & Jeph Stahl and published by WizKids Games. It's a semi-cooperative game that uses the same basic mechanics as Quarriors!, but with a LotR theme. Over at The Opinionated Gamers, Matt Carlson recently reviewed LotR: Dice Building Game. (WizKids has released some important revisions to the rules, so if you play the game be sure to track those down first. One source is BoardGameGeek.com.)
