Monopoly Wheelbarrow in Danger

By January 31, 2013

Follow me on:

MonopolyThe wheelbarrow is in danger of being eliminated from Monopoly. Game publisher Hasbro is running a poll on Facebook to see which of the classic Monopoly tokens should be eliminated, and what it should be replaced with. The results will be revealed on February 6.

As things stand right now, the wheelbarrow, the iron, and the shoe are all at the bottom of the results, each with about 7 percent support. The Scottie dog is leading with 30 percent, while the race car (14%), battleship (13%), top hat (12%), and thimble (10%) are in the middle. The candidates to replace the least popular token are a cat, a robot, a guitar, a helicopter and a diamond ring.

With the wheelbarrow in trouble, at least one company is trying to generate public support. Ames True Temper of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, makes about 80 percent of the wheelbarrows sold in the United States at a manufacturing plant in Harrisburg. They want to save the wheelbarrow token.

In less than a week, we'll know if they were successful.
