Ticket to Ride Heart of AfricaA map of Africa and an entirely new type of cards will be included in the next volume of the Ticket to Ride map collection series. Game publisher Days of Wonder says that Ticket to Ride: The Heart of Africa is "set in the vast wilderness of Africa at the height of its exploration by intrepid explorers, missionaries and adventurers."

The expansion is a single-sided board with 45 new "terrain" cards with three distinct types of terrain that are associated with different route colors. Terrain cards, which are drawn just like train cards in all of the Ticket to Ride games, can double the value of routes.

Ticket to Ride: The Heart of Africa is for 2 to 5 players, ages 8 and up. Train cards and trains from the original Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride: Europe are required to play. It's scheduled to be available in early December.

I am glad to see Africa included in the TTR series. I hope the instructions that come with the map say something positive about the various African peoples who lived in the area before European explorers colonized much of it. Too many Americans still tend to be both Eurocentric and ignorant about Africa.
