Great Race Games: Snow Tails, Fast Flowing Forest Fellers
A number of excellent race games were released over the past year, including two with modular boards and creative movement systems. I've had a lot of fun playing Snow Tails and Fast Flowing Forest Fellers, both of which have earned spots on my list of the best race games.
Snow Tails (designed by Fraser and Gordon Lamont, published by Asmodée Editions) is set in the Arctic Circle as players race dog sleds across a treacherous track of snow and ice. Players must manage their cards well to successfully navigate a course that includes tough curves, trees, and the other sleds.
Fast Flowing Forest Fellers (designed by Friedemann Friese, published by Rio Grande Games) finds players floating down a raging river on logs. Each player has two lumberjacks to move through some puzzle-like rapids to the finish line. At the end of every turn, any piece (player or log) that ends up in the current will move wherever the water takes it, which can generate a series of chain reactions.
I heartily recommend both Snow Tails and Fast Flowing Forest Fellers to any player who enjoys race games.
