One Scrabulous Lawsuit Dropped

Tuesday December 16, 2008
Game publisher Hasbro has dropped a lawsuit against the creators of Scrabulous, an online word game similar to Scrabble. According to the Associated Press, "court documents did not specify a reason for the withdrawal of the case."

Soon after the lawsuit was filed in July 2008, brothers Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla changed the game's name (to Wordscraper), the appearance of the game, and some of the gameplay features. Wordscraper can be played on the social network site Facebook, as can an authorized version of Scrabble developed by Electronic Arts.

Hasbro controls Scrabble's copyright in the United States and Canada; Mattel controls it elsewhere in the world. Mattel filed a lawsuit against the Agarwallas in India, an action which is apparently still pending.
