Scrabulous Removed from Facebook, Wordscraper Added

Thursday July 31, 2008
In response to a lawsuit filed by Hasbro, the makers of the online game Scrabulous have removed their creation from the popular web site Facebook for users in the U.S. and Canada, where Hasbro controls Scrabble's copyright. (Mattel owns the Scrabble brand elsewhere in the world.) An official version of Scrabble, developed by Electronic Arts, is available for Facebook. However, many fans believe it is inferior to Scrabulous.

Meanwhile, the creators of Scrabulous -- brothers Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla -- have launched a new game for Facebook known as Wordscraper. According to an article at Guardian.co.uk, Wordscraper includes "significant changes to make the game less like Scrabble."
