With the 2007 holiday shopping season in full gear, it's time to make recommendations for your game purchases. Look for new ideas to be posted to this blog regularly. We'll start with a look at some
five-star games that are great for players ages 10 and up, perfect for small families:
HeroScape (2 to 4 players) -- HeroScape's subtitle is "The Battle of All Time" and it certainly is. If you're at all interested in the theme (battles involving warriors from different time periods), I strongly recommend that you try HeroScape.
Settlers of Catan (3 to 4 players; an expansion is available for 5 to 6 players) -- Players compete to build roads, settlements and cities on the island of Catan in this terrific strategy game, which has sold millions of copies around the world.
Ticket to Ride (2 to 5 players) -- Building railroads across the United States and Canada was never so much fun. Players must both develop their own plans and try to disrupt the plans of others by collecting and playing sets of cards.
The Touch (2 to 6 players) -- The Touch is a refreshing game, original and extremely entertaining. Using only one sense (touch, of course) players must pull various plastic figures out of a dome, matching the items listed on a card.
