WizKids CEO Weisman Steps Down
Tuesday July 4, 2006
WizKids, publisher of games like HeroClix, Pirates of the Spanish Main, and the Battlestar Gallactica Collectible Card Game, has announced a major corporate reorganization. Company founder Jordan Weisman has stepped down as CEO; he has been replaced by Lax Chandra, who will serve with the title of President. Chandra was most recently Topps Company’s Director of Business Development for the Entertainment Division and head of Topps' Internet Group. (WizKids was acquired by Topps in 2003.) According to ICv2.com, the NASCAR-themed Race Day was a casualty of the reorganization (and a post at BoardGameGeek.com confirms it).
Since Topps is a public company, the departure of Weisman necessitated the filing of a Form 8-K with the SEC. According to that form, Weisman and WizKids agreed on a four-year time frame during which he will "develop certain games for which [WizKids] shall have a right of first refusal to market and sell." A related exhibit includes this juicy tidbit: "If Topps or Wizkids elects to launch the Star Wars constructible collectible game already developed by [Weisman]..." A Star Wars game along the lines of Pirates of the Spanish Main would be way cool. Way, way cool.
