Diamant, my pick for the #3 board game of 2005, is going to have a chance for wider U.S. distribution this fall. According to a report on BoardGameNews.com, retailer Funagain Games is teaming with publisher Sunriver Games to co-produce a card game version of the game, designed by Alan R. Moon and Bruno Faidutti. Players dig through mines, trying to find gems while avoiding dangers like cave-ins and explosions. Diamant is all about managing risk -- should you leave the cave with the gems you have, or should you keep digging for more? Taking big risks can pay off, but it can also assure a last-place finish. According to BGN, the new edition will likely be titled Incan Gold and feature artwork in the style of comic books from the 1930s and 1940s. More good news: The original edition, published by Schmidt Spiele in Germany, was expensive for U.S. gamers. Incan Gold should sell for about $15.

This is great news! I loved Diamant the one time I played it, but $30 is too much for what you get inside the box. A $15 version would be perfect.
Eric,
No big deal, but our company name is actually “Sunriver Games”. Thanks for the news item!

Chris,
Thanks for the note — apologies for the mistake. Sometimes, people spell my name as “Eric” instead of “Erik” so I should be more sensitive to unique spellings.
Seriously, I have made the correction. Thanks for helping to bring Diamant to a larger audience! Great game.
Cheers,
Erik
