New Poker Column in New York Times
Saturday June 25, 2005
The New York Times has started publishing a Poker column, written by James McManus, the author of Positively Fifth Street (an amazingly compelling book, covering the seedy side of Las Vegas while also documenting the author's attempt to win a Poker tournament). In the first column, which appeared today, McManus wrote, "With its frontier spirit intact, poker is now our most popular card game - maybe our favorite game, period - though because of our Puritan strain, we remain nervous about it. Judges and presidents play, and tournaments are broadcast on Super Bowl Sunday. In many jurisdictions, however, even low-stakes action is subject to raids by the police." If his columns are half as good as Positively Fifth Street, they'll be very entertaining.
